The central theme of Bahá'u'lláh's message is that humanity is one single race and that the day has come for its unification in one global society. God, Bahá'u'lláh said, has set in motion historical forces that are breaking down traditional barriers of race, class, creed, and nation and that will, in time, give birth to a universal civilization. The principal challenge facing the peoples of the earth is to accept the fact of their oneness and to assist the processes of unification.

One of the purposes of the Bahá'í Faith is to help make this possible. A worldwide community of some five million Bahá'ís, representative of most of the nations, races and cultures on earth, is working to give Bahá'u'lláh's teachings practical effect. Their experience will be a source of encouragement to all who share their vision of humanity as one global family and the earth as one homeland.

The Bahá'í Faith offers to the world a means of "walking the spiritual path with practical feet." Its teachings speak to the rational soul that yearns to attain a greater degree of spirituality; they address those searching for social justice in a world where too many remain oppressed; they champion the emergence of women, recognize and safeguard their equality with men, and protect the rights of the girl child; they offer peaceful and cooperative models of problem solving that respect and make use of the talents and views of all members of the human family; they affirm a moral standard that has become a way of life for more than 5 million people all over the globe. They offer light in a world that is too often dark.

Over one hundred years ago, Bahá'u'lláh brought this message of hope to humanity. The history, teachings and organization of the Bahá'í Faith present striking evidence that the material and spiritual dimensions of civilization can, when coexisting in harmony, bring together diverse peoples to work together for the betterment of humanity.
